Tested my new 170 and it shows bottom, temperature but no fish. Anyone know what the problem may be?
Thanks Ed.

Yep Fish under the sending unit can prevent clear screens! ( my screen has been clear way to long!)
Best way I know how to set the sensitivity is to drop a jig down underneath the transducer and then turn Your sensitivity up until You can see Your jig moving up and down as You give it motion. Then dial back the sensitivity until it is gone. Then bring it back and stop. You are looking for that sweet spot that is good enough to show your jig but keep the clutter off. If Your finder can see Your jig, it can see fish.
I'm sure You know this already but sitting still, the fish will show up as lines on Your screen as will your jig. When you are moving, they will show up as arches. Hope this helps.CF

I caught some fish but could not see them on the monitor. I will play with the sensitivity and do the jig trick as suggested by crappiefarmer.
Thanks guys, I will let you know how it turns out soon.

Also remember, the fishfinder is transmits a cone shape which I believe is 60d wide on the 170. Fish that are close to the boat and shallow may not be inside of the cone. Also the width of the beam is rather narrow and in shallow water may only be about 12-20 ft wide. If you are using a 12' rod on each side you are theoretically fishing 4' past what the fish finder can pick up.
