We were blessed with a favorable weather forecast for today. Pleased that we didn't put the boat away just yet. (Getting close though!) After our last report of a "skink" in our boat, we weren't too keen on going again, but with that forecast, it would be better to be fishing than sitting on the couch "wishing".
So we launched in the same place as before. Tried a few different spots, picking up one or two yellow perch here and there. Nothing to write home about. We moved deeper into the Oxbow and started fishing along the Rt. 91 rip rap. Walt started nailing the big yellows right off. He got the one and only crappie along with a very unusual "white" yellow perch!
Unfortunately, we had some miss-haps during our brief few hours of fishing. Walt broke a rod tip. I had one of my reels screw up (just stopped working) and right as soon as we launched, the sonar wouldn't come on! LOL! We've got some work to do for sure before our next outing, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day regardless.
Very calm in the morning when we launched with the air starting out around 37 degrees (without the sonar, no telling what the water was.....but probably in the high 30's - low 40's). When we pulled off the air was back up to near 50 degrees. But by noon the wind had kicked up and it became less comfortable.
Enough blathering about conditions. We ended up catching & releasing only 16 fish today, but some were decent quality and all were FUN to catch! Here are some of them.
The only crappie of the day:
And here's the albino:
Some of our yellows for the day:
All in all a perfect day to be on the water. We were mainly casting 1/16 oz. ball heads with straight tail plastics. Casting out and letting the jigs hit the bottom and starting a slow retrieve back.
We didn't see any of the resident eagles today, just a bunch of ducks and seagulls. We pulled off around 1 pm as the breeze picked up making it uncomfortable. Hopefully we'll get one more shot at it before the snow flies! You just never know what Mother Nature will throw at you!![]()
