Thread: Few and far between

Brother and I have been hitting it hard chasing crappie on brush. Picking up one here and there. Last year we were nailing them but, of course, the flood changed a lot. Not sure which direction to go. Docks, deep, channels? When we do catch they are beautiful.

Tried the timber? Fishing is better than no fishing. I know it’s tough when it’s slow though. Keep searching for those brush piles, they’re on em!

We keep seeing them in numbers on the brush piles on Joe Pool but getting them to bite is a different story. When Ketchn and SK have difficulty keeping them to bite you know the crappie have a serious case of lockjaw.

Stay At'um DH, I like to start shallow and work towards the deep..... Steep away from your normal stops and check/find those spots that don't get pounded by all the turkeys that fish the lake....
I find that fishn the small stuff helps a ton....

I will try your technique. We are not known as a crappie lake so there is little pressure if you do not count the silly surfers that throw endless 6’ waves allowing someone to ride the same wake for miles. When we do catch they look like this:

docks in the heat of the sunshine for them black crappie near deep water drops would be my choice with a tiny bait SLOW falling in the darkest shade possible …..but then again as Ez said its a tough bite lately and a few is likely to be a ok deal on some lakes right now .
wish I had the time and my own boat to go hunt them down is my thought …..

One thing I found on Joe Pool is that old big brush piles don't always look like a pile. They can look more like a small hump. On sonar anyways. I'm not sure how it looks with DI, SI, and LS. Or if they're even there anymore. Either way, they held fish often and a lot of people never paid attention or thought they were sand bass or whatever. Sometimes they wouldn't have many fish at all...except a biggun or two! Knowing that worked for me a few times other places when I seen a small hump/bump with fish on it too. Sometimes there be crappies down there instead of what you'd expect.

It hasn't been a problem finding them. The problem is convincing them to bite after you find them. But I had a little bit of luck yesterday afternoon after switching to a 1/64th pink and white handtie by Pepop. Placed a small split shot a foot above the jig and convinced a few crappie they wanted the jig.
