Default Lake Somerville Crappie 4/28 Night Fishing

Put in at Overlook at around 6:00 pm with the winds right at about 6 mph coming from the north. Top water temp was 75 degrees. Hit four separate spots and landed crappie at all four. They were hitting black/chartreuse, both homemade jigs and Bobby Garland Lights Out Baby Shad both with chartreuse 1/8 heads. They also were hitting shad and minnows. Was able to scoop up bait fish from around the boat using my lights. Caught well over 75 total crappie and 4 whites. We only kept 40 crappie all over 11" with the largest being 14 and weighing 2.16 lbs. Threw back all white bass. Most crappie caught near Big Creek. The bite was aggressive and fast until 1:00 am and the bite stopped abruptly. There were a few others out night fishing but they said they were not having the same luck as us. Another boat parked real close to us with very bright LED spots pointed on us the whole time so we left.

Nice mess of fish. Can't get anyone to go night fishing with me. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I sure need to try Somerville one day. Not that far away from Austin.

Nice catch. I really enjoyed fishing Somerville the few times I've been there. Never caught so many keepers. Two man limit with only about 20 throwbacks. Where is the best place to camp where I would be able to beach the boat? Thanks

You can camp at Welch park and they have small sandy beach all along the camp grounds.

Nice fish. I would start carrying a mirror about 12" square when night fishing. Sounds like they did not want you to see what they were doing or wanted you out so they could take over. But I like the idea of sendfing their light back over to them.
