Default My first Rio Grande cichlid / Texas cichlid

Caught in Cedar Park Texas in about 5 ft of water. Released back into the water to live another day. Pushing 7 1\2 inches or so. Lovely colors on this fish and I heard that they are related to tilapia is it true?

Yep. The Rio Grande cichlid has been moved around a bit down there deep in Texas, but is essentially a native with a range reaching down into Mexico. All of the tilapia come from Asia Minor or East Africa originally, but they are all cichlids.
