    Default Grapevine update

I fished this morning with 9 keepers, 20+ undersized, 5 Largemouth on the minnows, and watched a beautiful Texas Rat Snake swim around. FYI 5 of 9 still loaded with eggs, not even runny yet, but getting more blood vessels.

It was hot as heck, no breeze at all.

    Large one out front 13.25".

What part of grapevine do you fish? i went on Saturday 5/29/10 and had no luck just one large-mouth on a minnow. i fish some boat houses and other places on the shore, I'm guessing you fish on a boat?

I have one of the boat houses in Horseshoe. I went last night for 90 minutes as only time I could fish this week. 9-inchers were non-stop, but not many keepers. I had one 10 1/16th that was so skinny I let him go. 3 others that made 11". Seems like as the small ones have moved in the large ones have moved somewhere else. I still haven't had much luck shallow or even seen any caught.

I always start off catching a few easy ones on jigs, but they are mostly wanting minnows now. Also catching Largemouth, Catfish, and Drum on minnows.

I have only had the boat house since March, so haven't been there a full year to figure out the patterns.

March-April with cold water I caught fewer fish, but they were larger. More on jigs than minnows. Black/Chart was favorite. Best times were first hour or last hour of daylight.

May as water warmed they went more to minnows, more undersized fish, not as many hogs, but my total count of keepers went up. If any on jigs, seemed like lighter colored better with clear water. Best times were 1-2 hours after sunrise, mid-day, and 1-2 hours before sunset.

Who knows what the patterns will be rest of the year, all new to me. The Crappie fisherman in the other boat houses seem to just fish them in Spring, but said the Catfish are really good there through the summer. I have a 12V green light and I hope to have luck night fishing.

Wow, having that boathouse must be a lot of fun. Let me know when you go out there, maybe i can meet you there to see if i can actually catch more than two crappie for a change. That if its ok with you.

yes, I basically bought it just for Crappie. I don't even have a boat yet, but will soon.

When you pull into Boat House Drive and go around mine is the 2nd one on Southwest side by the cove. 1st one is the newer 2 slip with party deck. Mine is the POS old metal one. I don't have my walkway gate and lock done yet, so you can walk all the way up to the door. Your best bet before I get the gate done is to fish the corners between the walkway and boathouse. I haven't caught many there, but that is only a few feet from my structure.

Say hi if you see the door open.

let me know how you do! Tuesday evening when I fished they had completely shut off by 7:45 PM. I think they get started little before 6. I didn't stay long enough or have lights to see if they start again after sunset. I had a bank fisherman tell me a couple weeks ago they moved in shallower after dark.
