    Default Old Hickory 4-4-09 & 4-5-09 Crappie

Well to start Saturday 4th was terrible I found them but they had lockjaw, the lake had what looked like ( floating chocolate milk slicks ). Sunday 5th was better fished from 9:30 till 2:00 fish still had lockjaw but was able to catch 7 with 4 nice keepers. The wind was white capping the channel so I never left the boat dock area, for me when I look out across the channel and see sailboats leaning over at least 20° or more from the wind... I keep my life jacket on at all times, even when at the front of the boat fishing and do not venture out to the channel... best be safe today so I can fish tomorrow.

    Default Good Lookin fish-

Have a question. I used to live in Gallatin. There was an oldman who lived next door who fished a place( pardon my spelling) Laguardo or Lagudia. Anyway I think it was off Hwy109. Do you ever fish there? He used to bring home some monster Crappie.

I have bass fished out at Laguardo, but never tried the crappie there. I usually fish out of Shutes Branch or Cedar Creek just because they are conveniently close for me. Laguardo is off of Hwy 109. It's the upper part of Spencer creek.

I don't have scales but it was right at 15" long and was roughly 3.5" thick across belly. This fish bent my Fleuger Rod over and kept it bent the whole time. I thought it was a drum or something else at first until it came to the surface, I caught all the fish between 15ft and 18ft, except one that I caught in 12.5ft which was the smallest keeper. I believe that if the wind would not have blew me off the water I could have caught a few more.

Nice fish Rudy!! I tried Bledsoe Saturday and got skunked. I will look for you next time I am fishing Shutes.
I have fished Laguardo a few times this year. I caught small crappie on the beds marked by TWRA. There are three big areas in that cove and all can be fished from the bank or a boat.

Hey titan very cool I hope I get to meet a fellow crappie angler. I have a white fibergalss Nitro with blue on the bottom 16.5 ft. I have only been fishing Old Hickory for roughly 3 years and caught my 1st crappie last year ( by accident ) and nearly missed it all. But after studying on the pre spawn, the spawn, and the post spawn I hope to do better this year. All the reading on the fish and with all the info on this site from all the guys here I have learned much more and is starting to pay off... but I am still looking for that 1 day 30 fish limit. Give description of your boat. By the way don't hold it against me I am a life long Proud RAIDER Fan.
