Tried the Sauger Saturday
Dad and I went Saturday and put in at Clifton. We fished and fought the wind for about 4 hours before giving up. Only managed 1 stripe.....no sauger. Talked to several others and the people at the marina. One guy had caught 1. Everybody says that they've been hit or miss all this season. Seemed like they were missed Saturday. Have I missed this season's spawn or can it happen later than now?? Not much of an expert on them, just like to catch and eat 'em! Anybody else tried them?

I fished from Friday to Monday on the River around Clifton. Didn't catch one sauger. Caught all the stripe you could catch and around 8 kepper crappie. After the second cold snap hit a week or two ago where it got down to around 11 degrees we had a second shad kill. If the weather will hold this week they should turn on.

Hoping I can try them again this weekend. Maybe they'll wake up by then. Cole, I'll be the guy in either the old blue/silver Ranger or a brown 16 ft. Alumacraft. I'll be the one watching to see what you're catching them with and where.:D

Shoot sauger fishing will go on until late march or mid April. Also the water keeps them screwed up .That and 2 big shad kills.
Bad thing not hearing of anyone catching any small fish this year. That tells me we lost a spawn. And if that happed were looking at a few bad years ahead.
I am with cole, if we can get by without the temps falling down into the teens again. We should see them pick way up next week.
Also this works for me, while everyone else is fishing deep. I catch them shallow. AS in less then 12ft deep.

I've never fished shallow for sauger. How's that done?
