The wife and I were on the lake at 6am. The morning was very calm and then the winds came and it was a challenge. We were mainly fishing for shellcrackers. We only used crawlers. 1 under a float casting towards the shore or cover and 2 on the other side of the boat set near the bottom.

Our livewell ended up with 7 shellcrackers, 11 gills, 4 channel cats, and 1 flathead cat. The female crackers were full of eggs. 2 of the cats were 4lbs and 1 was a 3 lber. My wife also caught a large rainbow trout on a worm. We had to put it back because we do not have a trout stamp. I didn't know the main lake had trout in it.

Sounds like you had a great weekend Black Crow. Does your girlfriend also help you clean and bag the catch?

Way to go Ron :D! Thats a mighty nice catch considering how hard the wind was blowing yesterday. I bet that flathead was a handful on light tackle, truly a vicious fish. I love grabblin' for those things in June - they'll rip your arms to pieces, but it's worth it. Mind sharing how deep you found the crackers???

Does your girlfriend also help you clean and bag the catch?

No sir, she won't touch them. She got stuck pretty good by a bluegill fin one time and now she's a little gun shy. I have to get them off the hook and clean them for her. Only contact she will have with them is when they are on the end of a fork on the way to her mouth. I have always found that strange though because she'll clean ducks like nobody's business. Ducks are a lot messier than fish. But that's all fine with me. I'm just grateful to the Lord that He sent me a girl that will fish and hunt with me. Good luck to you if you get out there today.

Shoot I applause you guys for having a wife or gf that goes with you.I cant get my wife out there she wants to stay and work in the Taxidermy shop more than fish.But she dont stop me from going out fishing.

Ron that is amazing to get a trout in the main lake like that.In all my early years I have never seen any in there.Me and the father in law went out Monday on Priest think all together we had about 20-25 fish mixed bag of gills and bass. None went to the freezer or dinner table we let them loose in the pond so the kids can catch them later.

I heard on one of the local outdoor shows that trout will not go more than two miles or so from their point of release. That ain't necessarially so. I was down on my dock last year and two guys came by with a nice rainbow they had caught just up the river. I figure it came from the stockings below Priest. I'm guessing but it's about five or six miles from the dam to the cumberland and then another five or so to my dock. The 'experts' aren't always right. Besides, have you ever thought about the word. Break it down. Ex - a hasbeen. Spurt - a drip under pressure. Not too inpressive when you thing about it.
