    Default Bummin on the road

Got back a few hours ago from my first trip to Alabama's Lake Weiss. Can you say rain? Some of the worst weather I've been thru in a while. We had a great time, met my brother and we had our best girls along. Didn't know hardly anything when I got there fri afternoon, and stumbled around getting to know the area. Wind was very strong every day we were there. Caught 2 on friday, not another boat in sight. Went early Sat am, following our hotel nieghbor to yellow creek. I counted 32 boats in the area we fished. Pitched some boathouses and long line trolled like most everyone else. Caught 7. My bro got a nice 4lb striper, loads of fun on 4lb test. Bad storms drove us off the water. Tried again after they let up some, no luck. got blown off again 2 hrs later. Sunday was the guide day, we went with Terry Whaley. Former owner of Weissmart marina, he was a very good choice. This man truly has the home court advantage, having lived and fished there since before the lake was dammed. We trolled Southern Pro curl tail grubs in the darker colors with chartruese tails. Caught 17 in the lower lake section before the wind got up making it impossible to fish. Got some lunch and went to some protected areas in the Riverside area to give it a shot. We found so many fish the symbols were overlapping on the fishfinder. Caught another couple, and couldn't get any more interested. These fish are all stacked in the channels waiting to go shallow, Terry said in another week to 10 days it should all start happeneng. We had booked a full day, and without a word from us, Terry said we would call it a day and consider it a half days trip, saving us lots of $. At that point we had been out 7 hrs, considered a full day. Never had a guide offer me that before. I was very impressed with Terry's equipment, knowledge, and professional attitude. A great guy to spend time in a boat with. Will book him in the future, and have reservations for next year already set. Will also be doing a striper trip with him in the end of next month. Will post pics, soon as I can figure out how. We had a couple of fish pushin 2lbs, and several more 1 1/2. I saw more fish in our boat than in any other boat out there, other guides included. Sorry if I ramble, but it was a good weekend, just trying to cover the bases.

    Default Lake Weiss

Glad you had a great time. I went to Woods on Sunday and did not start until 9 and fished until 1. I went down the lake by the dam and managed 7 keepers. That is all that I caught. No dinks in the crowd. 1 pushed the 2lb mark. Casting in 14 foot of water into 8 foot without float. Most people were looking for green carp. Water was stained above the bridge and I did not good up there. I did not try the concrete structure.
