Dr Phillip and I got out late morning to look for shallow crappie. We finally had a sunny day with the wind not blowing us off the water. The first cove that we checked is one of my favorite spawning coves, but it is just a few days early on this particular cove. It won’t be long though until they are on the banks here.

So after an hour or so of fishing and looking around in this cove, we decided to hit the cove where we caught crappie just a few days ago and there were numerous boats fishing in the middle of this cove and no one was in the shallow area which is where we headed. Almost immediately, I landed 3 keeper crappie. We had to move back and forth over a 50-75 yard area in 4 feet of water to land our 10 crappie and 3 yellow bass and 1 white bass.

i got up on Phil 5-0 and we were basically using the same lures, same setup, with the exception that I was using Slab Sauce on my plastic Crappie Magnet, and he wasn’t. He finally relented and put Slab Sauce on his lures and then I only out fished him 3-2. Grin. I was using a loop knot and he was using a uniknot. I think it makes a difference when you are vertically fishing a jig which is what you do when using a bobber, floater or whatever you call those things in your area. Lolol.
