Dr Phil substituted admirably for CUonthelake today as she is nursing Daisy while she recovers from her little spay job. We put in at Skull Island and fished offshore structures today. We caught most of our fish (7) keepers and 2 shorts on our second spot and a boat was sitting on my favorite offshore structure and he was bass fishing. We came back later after he was gone to catch our two biggest fish but by that time, we were at our appointed time to quit and beat the heat.
It was the first time this year that we found fish on this structure. It is a community hole and you count it lucky if you are first to this spot each day. Surface temp was 83.7 degrees which is about 3-4 degrees cooler than below the Sequoia Nuclear plant discharge which is in the middle of the river. Wind was calm and not much current.
I’ll fish 2 more hours on Wednesday. I’m cutting back on the number of times that I fish in July and August. Me and humidity are not buds. I’ll take 7 big fish and two hours over a limit of smaller fish and staying until you get heat stroke. Grin.
