July 1st, the year is already half over, or is it we have 6 months of fishing left this year? Glass half full - half empty type thing I guess. Anyway, while the accountant wife is at work counting all the beans I called in a vacation day and went back after those deep fish I found last week. Got an early start, on the water by 6:40am and immediately found the small fish ready to play.

I actually do not mind catching small ones, it bodes well for the future. The bite was slow but steady, with the ratio of smaller fish winning the first couple hours. I threw back some just barely keepers for future seed and kept some of the larger fish for the freezer.

Both Blacks and Whites were present, and Slab Sauce was applied liberally to the Bobby Garland Baby Shad. Other species were hungry also, these things were stacked up on the bottom and were a fun aggravation. All white bass were released, but do pull hard.

When I hoisted one of the small fish over the side he slung something out of his mouth .

I found this on the deck of the boat, and when compared to the side of my offerings I would say I was spot on for size of bait used. I switched baits once to see if a different profile might trigger a bigger bite, and I did catch one keeper on the little bait from Texas that Ketchn introduced me to, the Tadpole.

By 10am it was as getting hot, water temps were already 82.2F and I was covered up head to toe to keep the sun off my skin. With no wind, I was ready to put the boat on the trailer and find some shade.

A half dozen makes a perfect mess, and the chores of cleaning a lot quicker.
