Cool Crappie fishing with school teacher 5/28/19

School is out and time for teachers to get back out on the lake and take out some frustration on the fish. However, today was a day for the fishermen to be frustrated as the bite was as slow as molasses in Vermont in February.

All the fish that we caught were dragging their bellies on the bottom and deep. The biggest fish came out of 30-35 feet of water. It takes patience to fish that deep, but Gary Fomby, aka Biofisher, and I had a load of patience for breakfast. Grin.

My solunar app gave a 8:15-10:00 window and was fairly accurate today. We started fishing at 6 and I caught my first fish just before 8 and it was a 3.75 lb Largemouth bass and it went home with me for Wanda, my better half. She loves lm bass as do I.

We caught 4 keeper crappie and a shellcracker at the beginning of the period and after moving, we caught 4 more keepers in a different type of structure, a bluff, at the tail end of the movement period. Wind got up and it go hot, so we called it a morning. Gary went home with 8 crappie destined for dinner tonight with his wife, Vanessa.

Water temp at dawn was 80.9 but over 82 at 10. Flow rate was 13,000 cfs. Our best colors were Blue Ice Baby Shads and Tennessee Shiner Baby Shads fished on 3/32 oz jig heads.
