    Default Crappie Tuesday 4/10/2018

There I wuz (to coin a word made famous by Al Father) all alone again. I just can't get anyone to go fishing with me on short notice. Actually, I can, but wanted to fish alone again as I am scouting and working on something.

It was a slow day as far as bites go, but I did manage to land 7 quality slabs and lost two others. My wonderful wife called me about 3:30 PM and asked me if I was about ready to quit fishing for the day and I said, "yes. I going to make 2 or 3 more casts and then I will be at the boat ramp in 10-15 minutes." Then on my last cast, I was working a floater and jig back to the boat and the float disappears, I reel down and gently set the hook and the battle was on. It was a very heavy fish that I saw briefly, a big female crappie, and she made a lunge and broke my line. Bummer! So I just quit fishing and sped back to Tyner Lane ramp and met Wanda with the truck and trailer.

I did catch one fish deep today, but mostly worked on shallow water. I caught a little Smallmouth bass and only one short crappie today. I downsized to catch the crappie. Bobby Garland Itty Bitsy baits worked very well. I was late finally putting them on, but the fish really liked them. Going again tomorrow after my checkup.

BTW, I had one female and 6 males in the catch today. The female was spawning. Water temp at the beginning was 56.9 and 60 degrees at 4:00 PM.

I'm glad you did well. Also, I want to thank you for the reports you give and have given on other boards. That info is valuable to so many, including those who have just moved to the area, or new to crappie fishing. Being unselfish is a great attribute to have....and you are OD'ed on it!!! Keep it up.

Good day! We went and just couldn’t find em. Looked high and low, deep and shallow! I’ve got some of those Itty Bitty Garlands, should’ve used them!

We fished in wolftever around the big boat houses in the first slough. Last week we wore em out, yesterday: 2. This morning we will fish Chester Frost early then north of the plant later. We've been catching on a minnow hooked onto a shiny jig. Hopefully our luck will be better this morning.

Nice catch, I found some Tuesday also in Upper East Tennessee (Cherokee Lake) still in deep water waiting on those warmer water temperatures. Our Black Crappie tend to come in first and spawn, looks like they are already started on the Chick!

Thanks for the report. It's good to know that I am not the only one to loose a big one at the side of the boat. Mine opened it's mouth and shook it's head and out came the jig.
