The past few weeks has been tough as far as crappie fishing goes and gathering from everyone I have spoken to, most are having the same results. Regardless if I am catching or not I am going to go while having time off from work so long as rain is not falling or unbearable winds are not a blowing. Well come to think of it I've actually been out in the wind a time or two but you know. Got my lazy butt out of bed this Christmas Eve and figured I could fish at least a few hours before invited guest began to arrive for this evenings feast. I caught a few crappie on my last outing in a deep basin area and wanted to investigate this area further. There is some scattered debris around this 30 ft bottom so I fished a modified 2 1/2" plastic bait on a 1/4 oz jig. This one was a half inch shorter than the 3 inch bait I used the last time with some of the fat taken off. The thinner version appeared to be more effective but only time will tell for sure. I caught bass, white bass, and I think I recall 10 crappie over the next 3 hours before the wind got up and pushed me off the lake. I'm going to try this again in a day or so and preferably get up earlier next time before the winds start to blow.
Everyone have a Merry Christmas!
