Default Beautiful sunrise and crappie fishing. 8/01/2017

I remember listening to Al Lindner several years ago on his TV program and he said that he and his brother, Ron, had kept accurate records of every fishing trip that they have made in the past 35 years and this is what he said. "It doesn't matter what species of fish that you are after, it doesn't matter what type of water that you fish, it doesn't matter what season or area of the country that you fish. In any given week, you will have two great days of fishing, 3 good days of fishing, and 2 poor days of fishing."

Today was our day for one of the poor ones. Grin. Candi and I set out before sunup this morning and got a couple of beautiful nature shots before we started fishing. The fishing was slower than molasses on a cold February morning. Most of the ones that did bite would pull off just before we got them to the boat or right at the boat as we were trying to lift them in. After an hour and a half, I finally got the skunk off the boat with a small spotted bass. Candi then followed up with our first keeper crappie in the boat. She landed 4 total crappie and I landed one total crappie.

She had a good bass come to the surface with her crappie jig and throw it in her face. It was about 2 or more pounds. Other than the spotted bass, we didn't land any more bass. No catfish today and very few crappie.

Water temp when we quit was 81.8 degrees as the surface temp keeps falling with the cool nights that we have been having. The water flow was 13,000 CFS when we started but about 8:00 AM they increased the flow to 20,000 CFS. We stopped fishing at 9:40.

Curtis Hobbs, Candi likes your jigs that you sent her. You will probably hear from her later.

We went last evening, and it was not stellar for us as well. We had a grand total of 2 keeper crappie, both by the wife, and they are still swimming. I did catch two pretty nice bass, but for some reason that always seems like a failure when I'm crappie fishing?!

The sun rise was phenomenal....a lot of my co-workers always ask me "why you get up so early on your days off?" I quickly show them a picture of a today's like sunrise.
, worth every ounce of getting out of the bed to witness Mother Natures art work!
hard to explain why, unless you have had a rod almost snatched out of your hand right at day break...always makes you start your day thankful!
added bonus if you catch some fish! Thanks again DK! Like I told you, the sunrise as worth it all today...
Special thanks to Curtis Hobbs...how did you know pink is my favorite fishing color!
    Great Blessed Day!

Always good to read your reports DK. Nice to see Candi too, she is easy to look at. We need to go again soon.

Great pics. I think this may be your worse report ever. It would be a good report for me.
