I trolled cranks starting at 1:45 PM for about 2.5 hours today with limited success. I am going to blame it on fishing in the middle of the day, but you have to go when you can. I caught 5 crappie and only 1 was a keeper. I did catch several other fish species including a rather nice largemouth bass 24 inches in length and a channel cat that was also 24 inches. I released all fish to fight another day. The water temperature was 77 degrees when I quit for the day. The grass is starting to form some nice patches. If fishing the grass beds is your thing it should be another good year.

I am going to have to fish some new spots in the near future or spend all day picking grass from my cranks. I am open to any suggestions on the best way to troll cranks for crappie in the main channel of the lake.

Good luck to those brave enough to fish next weekend. I will be far from the lake and the ramp next weekend and the July 4th weekend.

Have a great spring, JayW
