Default Chickamauga Lake Crappie report 4/18/17

The rain stopped late morning, so I took off for a short scouting/fishing trip all by myself. I concentrated on locating drops in the mid-teens with some fish on them. I found a couple of new spots for me and had some success catching crappie on them.

I did a little dock shooting just for fun before I quit fishing and caught a couple of keepers and several short crappie under the docks. Under the first dock that I tried, I hooked a big catfish and after a short fight, it got around a post and broke me off. Bummer. It was the only little bait like that that I had. My brother in law gave me this one to try. Then I caught a channel catfish on the next cast. Moved to another dock and had a big fish pull off. Then I moved to the last dock that I found and had another big fish take the jig and started swimming slowly out to the deep water away from the dock and I thought that I would land this one. Alas, the jig pulled loose and there was no slime on the line, so I think it might have been a big bass. I did catch a couple of spotted bass today on crappie jigs. But, since I have a boat rule that says if you don't see the fish and it gets off, then it has to be a Drum. Grin.

I was sitting on a channel drop about 1/4 mile off shore and one of the pros that are scouting for the upcoming big bass tournament zoomed by about 20 yards away when he had over 1/2 mile to get by. Just don't know about some people. I bobbed around for a little bit, but I didn't even think of a cuss word, let alone say one. I did think of the word "idiot" though.

I caught fish on Bass Assassin Pro Tine 2" shads and dappers. Also I caught a couple of fish on Bobby Garland Black night 2" baby shad.

There are, but they don't zoom by, they just roll in beside where you're fishing! Great report!

Thanks for the report. I had a similar experience with one of the "sponsored boats" while fishing on Monday. They cut in front of me while I was trolling and made a big wake and stopped about 100 feet away in my trolling route. Then they proceeded to cast around like nothing was out of the ordinary. I did not feel bad, not even a little bit, as I caught three of their precious green trashy fish while they cast in vain. I smiled at them and said politely "you should learn to troll crankbaits" as I reeled in another and put it in the live well. I don't think they thought it was as funny as I did, but I did not like them cutting me off and giving me a big wake either.

Good report. Lynn is always saying "Why do you slow down when you are passing near a boat. They never slow down for you."

Thanks for the report DK, As far as rude boaters goes, you sometimes have to teach by example...
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
