Fishing on banks with jigs and grubs
Hi. I do most of my fishing by planar boards or pulling crankbaits. When I have fished on the banks, I've used minnows and a float although I haven't ever been much good at this method. I believe some of you fish off the banks during the spawn using jig heads and grubs. If so, I am curious as to what size jig heads do you use? Do you use just one or two? Next, how close do you try to hit the bank, and doesn't the jig quickly start dragging the bottom? How fast do you reel? Finally, what lb line do you use? I normally buy 8 lb Bass Pro Excel or Crappie Max, but these lines coil up really fast. Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions.

I like to have the jig about 18 inches under a float. I prefer a 1/16 oz head with the smallest float possible that will support the weight of the jig. no split shot added either. just float and jig. Cast up to bank and slowly retrieve it. I tend to not let it set still for longer than 10 seconds with out reeling.

What quadlee said was right on target. Everybody has a different method and all will work at some time. Sometimes at Douglas , it's best to get out of the boat and throw out and pull into the bank, especially on points. Might give it a try.

Thanks quadlee and Coldwater Crappie. I certainly didn't suspect that folks used floats with the jigs and grubs. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try it out this weekend. Again, I appreciate the response.

Sometimes during the spawn you can catch the fish at your feet. So always try right next to shore and fish 6-12 inchs deep under the float like quadlee said.
