Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I were on a mission this AM before daylight. We had 3 bamboo crappie hotels to cut the ribbon on and put them in place. They are now ready for occupancy. Grin. Then we scouted until it began to break the morning and so we broke out the crappie rods and fished along with quite a bit of scouting before we quit for the day at 10:30.

We doubled on keeper crappie on our first casts of the morning. I caught one or two more keepers there along with a small trashy green fish (LM) and a tiny spotted bass. Then we moved to other areas. We checked off-shore structure, bluffs, roadbeds, and deep water brush. No really big crappie today, but we did manage 8 keepers and 2 shorts in the short time that we fished. We also doubled on white crappie on our last stop of the morning.

Panfish Assassins Dapper in the 2" Crystal Shad color was our best lure today. I also caught 3 fish on PA 2" Chicken on a Chain. Finished the catch with BG Gumdrop slab slayer on 1/16 oz jig head. Phil tried various colors. It is almost as important to find out what they won't hit as well as what they prefer with the Crappies for Canine benefit tournament coming up this Sunday, the 18th. Now, just let the crappie come to the new hotels. Free tickets on the Tyner Lane shuttle will be available for the first 7 keeper sized crappie. LOL
