Candi Burrows and I both were up by 4 AM in anticipation of a great Striper fishing AM. We were first ones up on the wall. Grin.
Same pattern that we have been on for the past several days. 1 oz shad head jigs that I pour and powder paint and plastic trailers. On the 2nd cast of the morning, Candi hooked and landed a Saugeye, which is a Walleye/Sauger hybrid. It is the first one that I have ever seen in the flesh.
A few minutes later, we began to catch Stripers. We landed 8 out of 9 bites. Our most exciting moment was when we both hooked up big Stripers at the same time. It was a tug of war for several minutes before I was able to bring mine to the net, a beautiful 14 lber. Then we proceeded to try and land Candi's big fish. Alas, it got into a rock pile and finally pulled off. It must have been a horse of a fish. Groan.
When the Stripers turned off, the white bass and Drum began to show up. I only caught one Drum and Candi now has the title of "Drumking" for one day. Grin. She also caught all the white bass. Let me tell you folks, this is a fishing machine that I have created. She knows how to fish and how to handle big fish. She even takes them off the hook herself. I like that. I am a great "net" man.
Candi had some work to do, so we called it quits early and were on the way back home before 9:30. Love those short but sweet trips.
