Appling lake Bartlett TN

I know we have several posters here that live in Bartlett, have any of you guys ever fished at Appling lake?

I took my youngest daughter for a walk around the lake Sunday and stopped and chatted with a couple of guys who were bank fishing and was very surprised to find out there were crappie in this lake. Its not even really what I would call a lake, its more like a retention pond. The first guy I talked to said he wasn't having any luck, when I asked him what he was after I about fell over when he said crappie. The second guy I talked to said he had a pretty good mess, when I asked what was biting he said crappie then then asked if I wanted to take a look at his fish basket, I pulled it up out of the water and I swear he had 1 12 inch crappie in there and several other around 8-9 inch crappie. I talked to a third guy and he said he caught a few bream and crappie earlier that morning but the bite had slowed way down.

I've lived within walking distance of this "lake" for 8 years now and had no idea there were crappie in it. I've been driving to Sardis, Glen Springs, Herb Parsons, when they were right in my backyard all this time. I've seen people fishing out there before but always assumed they were after catfish, I know they stock it with catfish every year for a couple of kids fishing rodeos they have every June.

This may have dire consequences for my marriage, knowing there is a lake this close with crappie in it I might be heading to the park every day after work once the sun starts staying out a little longer. I wonder how long they can be caught from the bank, ie do they go deep for the summer once it gets hot.

I have only caught small crappie out of there. Last couple of times I tried, caught nothing. Will have to give it another try.

Thanks for the info, I have caught bream and bass, there, but no Crappie. They must have slipped a few in the pond. I live in Bartlett also.

I hear there's a fence under the water somewhere on that lake, they say you can catch them by that fence.
