Ricky and I launched today, even though it was labor day and it looked like a foreign Navy had invaded Chickamauga lake, and scouted a little bit for crappie. Ricky has an upcoming tournament there this coming Sunday, so we were looking for fish. Our first stop was at a dock and it yielded 5 keepers, and 2 shorts. We left those fish and hit other docks and brush in the creek. Only caught 3 more keepers in the creek and then went to the main river to fish drop offs.
While on my favorite drop off, I caught a small Rockfish. First time for a Rockfish at this spot. It was just under legal size, so it got released to grow up. We fished with various colors and weights were from 1/24 to 3/32 oz. Colors that I recall that were productive were Crystal, Blue Ghost, and May Bug Minnow Minder. The water chiggers got out in force and while we were in the main river, the biggest cruiser that I have seen came roaring down the river throwing possibly the biggest wake that I have experienced. Ricky and I scouted a couple more areas without wetting a line and decided to give the lake to the hundreds of boats that were on the water today.
We found several spots that had fish on the graph, but we couldn't get them to bite. A common problem for us at times. Grin.
