Default Report: Nickajack at Riverpark 8/28/2015

After 4 days of scouting for and fishing for crappie, Dr Phil and I decided to change gears this AM and go below Chickamauga dam and fish for white bass with Foley spoons. We had a good current flow this AM and the fish were very eager to bite the first 2 hours. The last 1.5 hours it was slow, but Phil did manage to catch his first Walleye just as TVA was increasing the water flow. It was 25" long and weighed 4 lbs 15 ozs on digital scales.

We kept 15 white bass and the walleye to eat. Yummy. Technique was simple. Spinning rod/reel with 6 lb test line. Egg sinker and bead ahead of a barrel swivel and 17 lb test fluorocarbon leader about 18 to 20 inches long. Casting slightly down stream and letting the current impart most of the action to the spoons and it was game on. We guesstimated that we landed around 60 white bass plus, 2 bluegills, 1 channel catfish, 1 Smallmouth bass and I had my heart broken with a big Smallmouth bass hooked up, came to the surface to let me get a peek at it and when Dr Phil reeled his spoon in quickly to grab the net, his sinker and spoon wrapped around my line and after a few breath taking seconds, the Smallmouth bass broke my line. Phil felt bad, but that is just fishing for you. Grin.

I have an invitation to go Striped Bass fishing in the AM, but I think that I will rest this weekend. I am a little tired and 73 years old to boot. LOL

Nice Walleye! Those White Bass are a hoot when they come up like a pack of wolves chasing minnows. Good report and pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Been having flutter spoon fun with those schoolies
It has been keeping me away from the crappie lately
Like shooting fish in a barrel
I call it lazy fishing, but it sure gets exciting

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you
