    Default Report: Tellico Lake 8/25/2015

Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I set off on a new adventure today. First time today for us to motor up to Tellico lake and fish this new water. The G3 did find up there and with the lake insight mapping system, kept us from getting lost. Of course, Tenncrappie and Sailfish1 were in another boat and guiding us around the Notchy Creek area and points beyond. We marked brush piles, dropoffs, docks that held fish, etc. We did a lot more scouting and running than we actually did fishing, but it was a lot of fun. I love to scout almost as much as catching fish.

We visited Hicks creek, Ball Play, Notchy creek, Corntassle creek, 4 mile creek, and docks along the river channel. It is going to take more than one or two scouting trips to get to know our way around the lake. I will say that it is a beautiful lake. Sort of reminds me of Tims Ford, except you can catch fish in this lake. Grin. Dr Phillip caught a small crappie on his very first cast. We ended up with 10 crappie but most of them were too small to keep. We had 2 keepers. We had better find ways to catch 7 if we are going to compete in the November tournament. It will be embarrassing if we skunk out up there.

We caught some fish from deep brush, but Dr Phil and I caught most of our fish on docks. One particular dock yielded 7 crappie (2 keepers) and on and around another dock, we hooked 9 largemouth bass and landed 8 of them. One was a quick release. Added 2 more yellow bass from that dock before they quit biting. A short 15 minute flurry. I must have caught 6 or 7 bass in a row on a Crappie Dawg Whiplash lure on a 1/16 oz jig head.

The most important thing that we learned today was the areas that we need to eliminate in our search for crappie. I have been studying the map of Tellico and had several places in mind to locate. Had success finding a couple and had to eliminate one other one for sure. Chris and Tim were gracious enough to put up with us. We left them a couple of times to go exploring on our own. That is when we found most of the fish that we caught. Not giving away any secrets. Grin. Just kidding, guys. I don't have secrets. We didn't take many pics. Fish were small, but the scenery was beautiful.

Good report and great to see you both. Telly is a different animal for sure. There's not many lakes around with docks in 47ft of water, Not to mention a view of our states biggest mountain chain in the background. Your welcome anytime D K just give us a shout.

Looks like a pretty lake and area. Just wondering, what was the water temp? Thanks for sharing the report and esp. the pics.

Tim's can be very aggravating at times so I know what you mean there. Just takes time on the water. Thanks for sharing.

I do not fish Notchy very often but like you say Dickie it sure is some nice scenery out that way.
I tend to hang out in the mid lake region much of the time so if you decide to explore the mid lake area just let me know and I will gladly show you around.

Did you get a Gene report?
    An adventure for sure tho!
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you
