Our crappie club is having a hands on seminar this coming Sunday and 4 of us more experienced fishermen are taking 1 or two guys out for an hour apiece and showing them the different techniques that we use to catch crappie. After an hour, we all meet back up and take one of the guys from another boat and continue this until we take everyone out for an hour of teaching. My lot is to teach how I find, mark, and possibly locate off shore crappie spots. Our best dock shooting guy will show guys how he wins tournaments fishing docks. Our club president is going to show how to catch fish on bluffs and deep brush, and finally our VP is going to show guys how to use sonar to locate structure and fish. He will be showing how to use the different sonar settings and how sonar works. Should be a good session for everyone.
In preparation for Sunday's lessons, I studied my map last night to find a couple of spots near our starting point and found a couple of interesting spots that I have never fished before. It is way off shore. Using my graph, I found the spots and was lucky enough to find a school of crappie. Threw my marker buoy out and caught a keeper on 2nd cast. It is the one in the pic that I will show. It was slightly over 11". I ended up with 8 keepers from that spot along with a couple of shorts. I just love to find new spots and fish that probably haven't seen a lure since the spawning season. Grin. I found the 2nd spot that I wanted to find, but didn't find any fish or cover on this spot. However, this will be a good teaching spot and our focus Sunday is on teaching and not a fishing trip.![]()
