sailfish, sailfish jr., and myself ventured to watts bar this morning to scout for some crappie. found some in creek channels just before the main river and brought 20 home to eat. they would only eat shad raps today 90' behind the boat or pushing with a 3oz. weight traveling at about 1.8mph. purple shad raps. no bandits takers today. we only had three of the purple shad raps and lost one to a brush pile and another to a 3' gar, and then the fight was on as to who got to use the last one. we lost several fish today because I had not changed the hooks on my shad raps. lesson learned. we quit around noon as it was getting hot and trolling motor batteries getting tired. very peaceful morning to be out. all fish caught were white crappie, no blacks. during some of the rod grabbing action this morning I mistakenly referred to sailfish as "chris". not quite sure if he took that as a compliment or not??????
