Well, I got the low down on our dock. There was no damage to our dock during the freeze. Damage cam during the thaw. The ice had began to melt with the major ice near the center of West Sandy. The high winds and rough waters broke apart the center ice. A strip of ice about 1/2 mile long and1/4 mile wide drifted about in different directions and finally southwest winds pushed the iceberg into my dock. My neighbors said it sounded like thunder as the ice continued to bash against our dock. Nothing could stop it. My neighbor Brooke said the ice sheet was about 4-6 inches thick. WOW. This "iceberg" tore up a lot of docks on West Sandy by slamming into them and shifting in and out with the winds. Hit and run and hit and run agin I guess.
I managed to rig up the pneumatics so I could raise the lift out of the water. My hands almost froze (they good numb) working in the cold water connecting and reconnecting air lines. The lift looks like a limp duck. It is missing one of the air lift tanks but now is functional enough to lift my Jon Boat should the need arise. I also too a hydraulic jack and managed to get a couple of the damaged flotation pillows secured. What a job. Sure glad I am still in good health. It will be a while before repairs will be made as the dock builders are swamped with work.
The dock as it stands (or floats) now is a dock shooters dream. ha
