Default Fishing report for Big Sandy KY Lake week of Feb. 16, 2014

Hifolks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.

Thewater levels here on Kentucky Lake have stayed pretty steady at around 356 anda half. But by the end of the weekend, the water levels are supposed to drop toaround 355 and a half. The surface temperatures are still in the mid 30’s.
Crappie fishing has actually been pretty good here on theBig Sandy this week. Dark colored jigs like black and chartreuse tipped withcrappie nibbles or a black, blue, and chartreuse stinger shads tipped with a smallminnow are doing real good in getting the fish to take a boat ride with you. Most of the people that I have talked with that have been catching good numbersof fish, are using those jigs while fishing on the deeper drops and ledges in18 to 22 feet of water and holding the jigs as still as they can.
Hopefully, we will only have a few more weeks of all thiscold weather stuff. Then hopefully, it will start warming up and we can getback to what we like best. And that’s hunting and fishing.
TheFishing Expo that I have been talking about the past couple weeks will be heldnext Saturday the 22nd. I had the date right, but I have been sayingthe wrong day of the week. The 22nd is NEXT Saturday. The expo willbe at the Birds Creek Baptist Church on Whitlock Road just past the rail roadtracks. There will be some folks there that will be talking about how theycatch crappie in a lot of different lakes and I will be there talking aboutsome of the Humminbird Side Image units and how I use them to find and catchcrappie.
Don’t forget, our fishing license will expire at the end ofthis month. The new license should be available next Monday or Tuesday. Theyare usually ready for purchase on February 18th. Make sure you get your new license beforeMarch first. The folks from TWRA will most likely be on the lake in full forceMarch the 1st checking to make sure you have your new 2014 fishinglicense. It will be a lot cheaper to get them before the dead line than it willto get caught without them after the dead line.

That’sall the time we have for this week.
    See-yaon the water folks.
    Thanksfor listening.
Have a crappie day!:D [email protected]
