Lets Find Fish
I was born and raised in Georgia. I grew up Crappie fishing on West Point Lake and loved every second of it. But now that I live in TN, Henderson to be exact, I only know of a few places to find crappie. I know where to go back home, but I am not very good at finding fish based on weather patterns or times of year. I also love to stripe fish, but again, I have only been a few times, not enough to know how to find them regularly. I have put out a few crappie mats that I can catch fish over, but I'd like to learn to become a better crappie fisherman and stripe fisherman too. If anyone is near or around my area that would be willing to help me out, please let me know. I have been to Morgan creek a few times and love fishing there, but again I have been with someone who knew where to go. I now have a boat and want to start taking myself to some productive waters, but find myself unsure of what to do. Reply, E-mail, or call my cell... 731-435-9318. My Friends call me Dave. I am a PE coach so Saturdays are about the only time I can go (Sunday Church) I am putting out more brush piles in the morning and will probably fish a few hours also. Call anytime. Thanks!

Chickasaw Park is right up the road from you and the many years ago the ranger used to take a flatbottom (has to be rented from park) and follow the channel out in front of the spillway and catch several crappie. This end of the lake is deepest and you should find some fish there. Used to always do good from the bank too.
There is another lake just up the road from it that is in the park as well where a lot of fish are caught. Used to be some real good bluegill an shellcracker you could catch in the spring. Caught a 25 lb. channel cat back in 1978 in lake in the main park. Some big ones in there and easily fished from the bank.
Pretty good-sized lake in Lexington (can't remember the name) but numerous smaller lakes and ponds around you, which might be your best bet. Check with a fisherman or two at your church. They'll probably be able to help you. Even better, see if you can go with one and show you how they do it. Make sure not to go back to their spots unless they give you permission. If you do and they find out, it's doubtful you'll get a 2nd trip.
I was out at Chickasaw one spring afternoon and had taken several shellcracker. Another kid from college came by and asked me how I was doing. I was proud to show him my stringer and prove what a good fishermen I was. I wasn't as proud the next day when I returned to find him standing on "My" log catching "My Fish". Which turned out to be a good lesson for me when it helped me realize, first come, first served.

I actually border the state park on two sides...my house. I fish Lake Lajoie quite a bit and have numerous stake beds in the lake, however being that it is such a small lake there are often 5+ boats fishing the "hot spots". I have tried fishing chickasaw st. park (lake placid) and never caught a crappie. I'll have to try by the spill way. I have caught a bunch of large catfish there, the biggest being 13 lbs. I wonder if they would let me put some stake beds off that side of the lake??? I'll ask. Thanks Man!

Pretty deep close to the spillway. You'll have to put them in concrete and sink them. Will probably be easier and quicker to sink brushpiles if they will let you. Water on the other side of the bridge is very shallow.
Back in the late 70's, they used to let the lake down until it was only 5 or 6 acres. Loved watching it as it started getting low on the shallow ends. The bass would chase minnows it the little channels. Don't know if they do that anymore or not. If they do and they wold let you, you could walk out on the shallow end and put them wherever you wanted them. Had some great times out there during my college days. Fishing was good too! ha

What type water did you fish in GA? Lake, river, creek, reservoir, etc.? typical depth?
What fishing style do you like most? Single pole, spider rig, troll, etc?
Do you perfer live or artificial bait?
How far will you travel?
