Default Need input - Tryin sumthin' new...

Hey, guys. First, I am brand new to the site (been reading the posts for quite sometime, but just registered as a member). I am a West TN native, a life-long fisherman (TN River, KY Lake, Reelfoot, Beech River Watersheds, Lake Graham, and about every small lake, pond and slough in West TN). I am an avid (I didn't say good - smile) crappie and bream fisherman, but I have fished for and caught almost every species of fish in the local waters... all that is, except for sauger.

As long as I have fished here, I have never caught one... not even by accident. With the weather finally turning colder, I thought I might give it a try this year, and was hoping for some insight... where, when, with what (tackle / bait wise), whatever you can tell me.

Don't worry, I PROMISE not to clutter up the TN Crappie Forum with a bunch of non-crappie questions... I will have PLENTY of crappie questions, too!!!:D

Welcome aboard speck-tackler. Not sure what lakes in West Tennesse hold sauger. In East Tn. a lot of people fish below the dams in the colder months with jigs or jigs and minnows. There should be some info on the TWRA site about the better places and times to target sauger. I do know, if you catch some....you have some fine eating!

    Welcome from East Tennessee.
It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Well I fish Reelfoot most of the time but sometime go up to Ky Lake and I have accidentally caught a Sauger one time up there. This is the only place I know off but maybe someone else may have more info. I wish you the best with your quest! Welcome abord!!

    Default To the Reelfoot gang...

You guys will probably get tired of hearing from me before it is over with :D. I have not fished Reelfoot since I was a kid, and now I wished I had paid more attention to what my dad was trying to teach me!!! I spent 4 days crappie fishing at Reelfoot back in late August. I have never had so many bites in my entire life!!! Just wish the crappie had been biting as well as the mosquitos were !!!!! I have a LOT to learn about fishin the foot!!!

Check out sauger central.com, it's been started by one of our own here Shiloh Red. He makes and sales sauger jigs, and can fix you up with some super looking jigs.
Pete lives close to Pickwick Lake Dam, and fishes the Tn. River there for sauger. Get with him and he'll get ya going in the right direction, and tell that snapper head I sent ya....lol.
