Met up with Uncle Remus after a threatening phone call about someone should get their big ole butt out of bed and go fishing with him. Well, I was up and had my first cup of coffee in hand when he called the second time. I guess I had better get ready to go. I got everything situated here at the house and left to go to get minnows on the way to the lake. We did the Dawgg thing sniff, scratch and kick grass as far as we could then got loaded up on the pontoon and proceeded to locate some fish. Piddled around an old spot and found a few quick bitters then it was pick and peck at them until we left. We had 32 mix with crappies and perch. 6 nice crappies and a few magnum sized perch and several dink perch. We pounded the bottom of the boat with the thumping stick, and it worked most of the time to get one or two excited enough to bite but mostly beat the crap out of the floor for the most part. We fished from 11:00 am until around 2:30 pm, Water was 43* the whole time out there with slight breeze for a couple of hours then stopping all together. Chilly at first in the breeze then warm with still air. Uncle Remus did an excellent job as guide, boat handler and also a great bait master. Never have I seen this, but Remus caught the largest crappie with the net. How you may ask! Well, he baited his new rod and reel and set it in the rod holder up front of the pontoon and went to the back of the boat to watch his other rods, when a large crappie came floating to the top. He called out to me that we needed to back up to net it. He said it had jig in its mouth that look like his. It was! The crappie had swam to the back of the boat and had no way to go but up. Uncle Remus told me the big ones were biting and they sure did whether we were watching the rods or not! Thanks Uncle Remus for the nudge to go I enjoyed it.
