Use to be all I did was single pole but now it's only once in a blue moon. I do at night time sometimes with a jig and it's good to feel the thump then. Doesn't really matter though, I can do it but I'd be rusty as a nail trying. :Rofl

Stump Hunter I hear what you are saying and respect that. It can seem to have that result but also I have seen coolers and coolers of crappie even from those who don't have livescope using long line or tightline or spider rigging. When Spider rigging and long line first came out they were saying the same thing about those methods. For me and my two friends we don't keep anymore crappie than what we did before livescope. In fact my first two trips I have released them all. I only keep what family can eat. Trust me I caught more than enough without live scope. Livescope in my boat I can learn how they react and give someone an experience that they don't get to have like we have enjoyed because they don't fish much.Quote:

I like to catch crappie using any method I can. I do think there's a time and place for all methods. I spiderrig, long line troll, single pole jig, and cast/shoot jigs. If you had to limit me to one method for year round success, I'd have to go with single pole jigging. To me, single pole jigging is different than single pole casting or shooting. Single pole jigging is using a longer jig pole to drop and pitch your jigs around cover and structure and I LOVE to feel the thump. I like the slack line and line twitch bites equally as much. And, I feel that you can catch fish year round with a jig pole and you really don't have to have a fancy boat or electronics to do it. Matter of fact, most of the fish I catch single pole jigging is without the use of any electronics. It's simple and it's old school. I believe it's how crappie fishing started and that's one of the reasons its my favorite method! No matter how I'm fishing, you can bet there's always a jig pole and an UL in my rod box.
CK, I can relate to your pain and sorrow. Today 21 years ago I buried my 16 year old daughter Heidi. She was a outdoor girl fished and hunted with me from early age of 5 years old. She was tough as nails and could stand her ground. She didn't have to take self defense classes because she had brothers and sisters who participated in them. You know the saying monkey see monkey do! CK, I'm sorry you lost your grandson Aaron, it is a very tough thing to have to live with. Lot of soul searching to find out there is nothing you can do to change Gods plan. Not fair at all and we have to accept the fact that there was a better plan instore for both of them. For Aaron and Heidi you know they are fishing on the big lake with all the others relatives we have lost in the past. Heck they better at the thump than we are I'm sure. :highfive
I was taught recently how to jig fish. Man I love it. I enjoy all the ways to crappie fish. But man feeling the thump is something else. I love it.
