It is absolutely impossible to keep line horizontal regardless of how much weight is used if boat is in motion. Water causes drag on the line, the deeper you are fishing, the more line that is out, the more drag that is present. I use 3/4 ounce of lead to keep lines at about a 20 degree angle when tightlining at .4 to .5 mph. If wind or current is present up to 2 ounces of lead is used in addition to jig and or minnow rig to maintain what is believed the correct depth.
If you want the jig to jig to sit horizontal at all times with a loop knot, you need to find a jig that is center balanced. Like an egg head jig. I make my own. I use two different heads and both are center balanced. Work perfect with a loop knot at stand still or any speed. Always in a natural presentation.
