Headed out this morning (10/25) to Lake Bowen to give them a try. I knew all the signs were stacked against me but I went anyway. Full moon last night, cold, cloudy, NE breeze.
Got on the water about 9 and headed to some brush and see what they were doing. I caught two nice ones right off, and thought just maybe it was going to be better than expected. Needless to say, It wasn’t. I bounced from one piece of structure to another all day, fish were very scattered and light to bite. Gave up on them about 2:30. Wound up with 14 total crappie, 10 of those were 12”+. Biggest was 13.5”. Caught all but 1 on a 1/32 oz. black jig.
All together, the day was slow but enjoyed some time with a good friend. It was fun seeing him fight a nice spotted bass on his 10’ jig pole. Bent that thing over double when it would take a run. He wound up losing it in a brush pile.
