If you have a one man boat, and are limited to distance and area you have probably waited too long to fish for crappie and shellcracker now. Most fish have left the spawning flats, and shallow water areas. There are plenty of crappie in the Jacks area, but not near the landings. You will need to travel a mile or two to get to prime locations. Bluegill are bedding and could be targeted in areas near most boat landings located in creeks.

February can be good, and should be when you should start looking. March is prime time on Santee.
