Anybody out there in crappie land that wants to buy a new depth finder with all the goodies bass pro has the garmin echo 93 sv chirp on sale for $599.00. This is one heck of a good price to get side imaging and down imaging plus GPS. I got one on my toon and really like it. I bought another one from bass pro to go one the front of my walleye boat. I have a lowrance hds 7 generation 2 on it now that I will probably sell. If interested shoot me a pm.
The garmin is better in my opinion I am changing out all my units to garmin. The garmin has sv, DI, built in where you have to have the module and transducer for the lowrance. Picture wise and clarity I would say they are about equal. I got 2 garmins on the toon and 3 lowrance's on the other boat. Soon they will all be garmin.
That is a good price on that unit, but people should probably know that it is a generation behind now with the 93 sv plus now out. It adds touch screen and maybe some other stuff but is $999. Garmin has also announced the new Ultra High Def which is only compatible with the plus unit and not the older unit. The Ultra High Def is an additional $599 for the transducer and box that gives sidevu in the mega range like the Humminbird Mega units. It is all about what you want and what you can afford as it always seems to be. That said, that is a still a good price for that unit but it is buying older technology similar to buying one of the older Humminbird units prior to Mega imaging. If it meets your needs, it is a great bargain.

Your are right midhillbilly it may be behind but for 90% of the fishermen out there there is not enough difference in the two to warrant another $1000.00 for the plus. The one I have now does everything that I want it to do and more. They are chirp units also. If you got another $1000.00 to spend then then get the plus and if you want a good simple to use unit that will meet most people's needs then it is one heck of a buy.
No doubt that is a good buy for that unit and you can get some good deals on the older generation units when the manufacturer comes out with the next latest and greatest. You can also get some really good deals right now on the older Humminbird units that don't have Mega imaging and some of those have chirp, also. There is a thread on the electronics message board with a question about should they buy the older unit where they can get a bigger screen for the money or the Mega unit. It just depends on how you plan to use it, your budget, and will you be happy with it. For some, they could buy the older unit and then be wishing they had saved that amount to put toward the newer unit later. It is kind of like buying the latest and greatest cell phone. I am perfectly happy with my older phone because it does everything I want it to do, but some have to have the latest thing out there and will use all of its features.
