Wow! I thought Crappie fishermen were gentlemen! I thought only us Bass fishermen were aholes! :Rofl I was fishing a Thursday eve tournament a couple years ago on the river. I was working my way through some concrete riprap they had dumped off the top of the bank to keep the highway from washing away. Great place to pick up some Spots. This cat comes downriver from behind me, on the opposite side, then cuts directly across and pulls in front of me. I mean like my next cast in front of me. He's on the trolling motor just like I am. Has been following me for 30 min on the other side. I am coming to my favorite stretch and I am beyond mad. I threw down my finesse rig and picked up a buzzbait and started casting past him between him and the bank. Thing is he had his grandson with him, who I coached in baseball and is my sons age. I didn't wanna just blow up on him. After three or four casts he got the hint and motored on... At the weigh in I asked the director since I was fairly new at tournament fishing, what was an acceptable and respectable distance to pull in front of someone. The common answer was 100 yards or so. Some peoples kids....
Most are nice. Just when others on the same lake keep doing dirty stuff and know it bothers you is when things change. :cheers2
I had a couple teenagers last year in a big black and blue Supra wakeboarding boat cut us off at almost dark last year in front of Ebeneezer park. The wife, dog and I were cruising back in, running our nav, anchor and undergunnel lights and these drunken idiots flew up beside us, turned port side and just stopped. We had to slam our boat in reverse to avoid hitting them. At this point, I started threatening the kids life with my bare hands using all of the most colorful language I could, just to ensure my point was being made. It was in his response of "I didn't even see you there" where his words were slurred that we realized they were too drunk to deal with, so we went on our way.
My only other issue was one day I was Kayak fishing in Nivens and got cut off by two guys fishing a bass tourney. When I asked wtf? Their response was; all things are fair in love, war, and bass tournaments."
Had a bass boat do that to me one day bass fishing( yeah I know it is hard to believe but I was a diehard bass fishermen) he shadowed me and saw me catch a couple and pulled in front of me and started fishing the same bank. I was in a alumunium boat with a 50. I told him if he parked that boat to where I could get to him I would kill his --- on the spot I was so mad. After I blew my head gasket he decided to seek calmer waters. I was so mad I said a few words about his momma trying to get him to park it. No proud but enough is enough
Ive read the posts here and even have some more that I could post.....but the BEST THING you could ever do is pull in your trolling motor and move before you let someone get you riled up. It just aint worth it getting MAD on the water. Kinda makes the whole fishing trip a bad experience if you know what I mean. Catching fish aint worth it if someone is ruining your trip. Besides, if youre lucky enough then you can go somewhere else and start catching them all over again.
Public Waters, I stopped duck hunting when we got sprayed with buck shot when my son was younger. Has happened fishing also but you can move faster and get out. Last year we nearly got swamped by surf boat also, I gave him my piece of mind and he came back around. I was ready if he was but he chickened out. I have water sport toys also and if I see someone fishing I stay away from them.
I think it is how you grow up and how much you are around the water. I grew up fishing and on the water doing everything from barefoot to fishing.
Back to the original question, if you can cast and hit their boat...that's too close. And I believe I would have blown a gasket. I'm a very mild mannered individual and I can brush A LOT of stuff off but if I start seeing red it's not a good thing. I'm certain I would have lost a few jigs attempting to wrap them around someone's neck!

It wouldve got ugly, probably wouldve pulled up lines, started main motor, and start running all over until the wake threatened to sink my deep v
