Let the fish tell you what they want and go from there. My favorite is the one they are biting that day. I start with some of both and go from there.

I use a mix when long lining: paddle, curly, hair jigs, road runners. They all get bites at times. I will say this about curly tails, some don't swim as well as others. I think it has to do with the stiffness or thickness of the material. I always test them beside the boat before putting them out. If they don't have good, easy movement I dont use them.

I prefer curly tails when trolling slow. Use Sliders if trolling fast or in dingy water.

The length of the bait coming thur the water is a factor. Some days Crappie like a shorter or longer profile. They will tell you.

I pull both sliders and curly tails. I think color is the most important right now but during colder months I think less movement from the sliders sometimes gives you the better bite.

Sliders are a little long so I bite off about a 1/4". I think it cuts down on short strikes.
