    Default Lake Murray 4/2/17

Got my chores done around the house after church this morning so I loaded the boat and headed off for an afternoon trip. I just went fishing and was prepared to do just about anything I needed to do to bring home a mess of fish. I dropped the boat in a little after 4 PM and off I went. To be honest, I never even looked at the water temp but I started out casting around the bank and a run of docks. It took a short while before I finally connected on my first fish of the afternoon, but thank goodness I found the spot I did. I caught 7 bucks from one little spot beside a dock and left them to look for more. I picked up another couple fish further back in the creek and decided to swap over to pushing jigs. I pushed, and pushed, and pushed some more and never caught a fish. About 7 PM I threw the towel in and made a quick stop by my hot spot and picked a few more up. All in all it was a great evening on the water. I ended up catching 12 crappie in all and kept 11 bucks. I let the little female swim to lay what few eggs she had left. It's about done for on Murray. Not sure where the big females are at, but I'm pretty sure they are laid out and just not feeding.

All my fish were caught casting a black/chart. mini jig. Sometimes it's nice to get back to the basics and bring home a mess of fish to eat. The bucks I brought home sure were pretty sporting their war paint. It's been a good spring and I'm looking forward to the coming months!!

Nice catch Dereck. I think most of the spawning is over in the lower lake. I am going to make one more trip to the hill and then start fishing Murray. Thanks for sharing

Way to go Dereck ! Glad you got a mess to keep and great pic.
They must have "snuck" in and out to the banks on me during the wind and cold spell over the last 2 weeks.
