Warmouth
Hey guys I have just recently been able to start lurking around the forum again. Last week I was catching warmouths in a lake off of the little pee dee in 10 fow. Water temp was 53 to 56 degrees. My dad loves fishing for them so he decided he wanted to go this weekend so we went. We went to the same spot and no fish appear on the fish finder. The water temp was 58-60 degrees. I rode around the whole lake and was unable to find any fish in the lake on the fish finder. The lake turns into a swamp at the tree line for as far as you can see. Where the water is about 1-2ft deep. During the summer the water in the river and lakes drops and the swamps dry up mostly. I have heard many people say you cant catch fish until the water falls because the fish are in the swamps. I catch them all winter long without any problems and the water is always high in the winter. Do you think the fish are in the swamp? I have a hard time believing this for some reason. I understand there is opportunity for fish to feed in the swamp with warmer weather and more vegetation to attract food for the fish. If so did the change in water temp drive their movement? There are no brush piles or grass beds in this lake and I did not catch any fishing around stumps on the side of lake. It's like they vanished. Ended up catching 3 warmouths, 1 crappie, and a 1 bowfin on jigs in another lake. Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks
Caleb
