Santee Cooper Lakes from a kayak

I plan on hitting these lakes with my kayak over the course of this upcoming week. Any general launch location that would put me in a good area to catch crappie? What depths should I look for?

I do not have a fish finder and was planning on jigging/shooting docks along with float/minnow shoreline trees.

Would it be wise to go out to the tree line along the old river channel in Lake Marion?
Weather-wise, should I pick a warmer day, or simply not the day of an approaching cold front?
