    Default Wateree

Set off for Wateree this a.m. on a short and unexpected trip. Hit water bout 6:00 a.m. and started the search for bait. Not to bad. Had enogh for 3 boats in bout 45 minutes. Didnt matter how much bait you had though. It was so foggy you could not see 10 ft. Scared to try to gps our way out to main lake. There was a cat fish , bass , and a crappie tourny on the lake at same time. Could hear boats moving around but could not see em.So just put the i-pilot out and headed out real slow. Caught one small stripe before we went 50 yards. Then nothing. Fog finally broke about 8:00 or so to where you could move around.Headed to June Creek area. Had a hot tip on that area. Got lines out and wasnt long Them Perch found me. After a short battle to get out of those I had a rod scream off the back. Went for it but to late. Broke me off. As I was fixing that had four rods at once go down.Success ! Out of 4 I got one.About 5 lb. striper. While fixing that mess another rod went down. As I reached for it 2 more took off. Again only got one out of it. After a short dry spell another nice striper came to the boat. Then it was the dead sea. After a couple hrs. of nice weather and boat riding I was ready for a hotdog. Met up with my brother and his crew and loaded up to head for a dog. My final was 3 stripes in the boat Several break offs. And a dozen or so perch. Why so many break offs ? I was trolling for crappie with my long rods and only 4 and 6 lb. line. But it was fun. Not a single crappie was hungry today. Maybe next time. We ended the day between the 2 boats with 23 stripers coming home and several throw backs. About 20 to 25 perch kept. Not to bad. And I can brag ! The largest one in the cooler shot was on a 12 ft. rod and 6 .lb .line. My rod !

Great day on the water John. They are fun on crappie rods for sure. I am sorry you didn't catch any crappie but I know you had fun. I just finished off a plate of striper, fries and hush puppies. Sure was good. Thanks for sharing post and pictures.

Did you guys get in on the big school that came up around 1030? Those birds were crazy dive bombing the water.

John I looked on the NC board and the winning crappie weight was just over 12 lbs. they were biting just not where you were at. Don't know what technique they were using but a lot of crappie was caught. I will call the crappie hole and see if I can find out more.

John, you had a banner day compared to working! Glad you got out and on some fish. I think I'll try one day this week on my off days if the weather co-operates. Maybe not go as early due to fog being bad there almost every morning. Thanks for sharing your luck and adventure to Wateree. Great pictures to!
