Default Homemade minnow traps what to use and what kind of bait?

There are a lot of minnows at the dock of my parents lake house they recently purchased. I was wondering if anyone ever had luck making a minnow trap out of a plastic water bottle or like a 2 liter soda bottle. I was also wondering what kind of bait to use for minnows. I thought it would be fun for the family to make their own traps and everyone use a different type of bait to catch minnows and who can catch the most.

Dog biscuits, stale Bojangles biscuit, or floating fish pellets that can be bought at a Tractor supply store. Fish pellets can chum in the kitties as well.

I used loaf bread as a kid. It seemed to work as well as anything.

Punch a couple of holes in a can of cat food. Put in trap. It last several days as th scent leeches out and draws the fish in. These are the small cans like a small can of tuna.

The old antique glass ones are awesome. I usually just use crackers or bread. You can make one just copy a conventional one. I have some wire ones they are okay but clear works better I think...wife won't let me use the glass one anymore say's it's a collectible.
