Angry Took Too Long To Find 'EM

Fished on Tuesday trying to catch a mess. My opinion was to start in 30' of water so my plan was ON. Started with 1/16th jigs but was marking everything between 13'-20' deep with others deeper than that. Spent a good hour trying to get jigs in their faces but the fish wasnt cooperating. Tried pulling both sliders and curly tails but NOTHING bit. So....moved back up the creek to 20' of water...same thing, plenty of fish and bait deep (13'-15' deep) but only a bite or two. No fish after a couple hours of fishing. By now the sun was getting high and HOT!

One last resort...look shallow. Who woulda thunk?!? Hit the flat in the back of the creek trying to pull 1/16ths but was dragging bottom. Caught a couple then had to re-tie to 1/32nds. Picked up another 10 or so but it was getting hot quick and the fish and bait was disappearing from the graph QUICK. Guess they went into the mud because it wasnt long and EVERYTHING went blank and the fish quit all-together. Pulled out the umbrella and trolled for another 30 minutes with only 1 more bite so I called it quits. Man...I will tell ya that as I get older this heat mixed with fishing AINT NO FUN! Anyway, I did catch a dozen and kept 8 for a mess. Big fish about 13" and kept a few of the 9" fish to make the mess.

Sorry, no pics of the trip but did take one from tonite. T'werent bad if I say so myself.

Good to hear you found them after some looking. This water has got hot so it doesn't surprise me that you found some shallow. That plate looks very good, time to pull out some fillets Enjoyed your report

Nice report Butch, shallow water is the most overlooked in the heat of summer. We catch some like that year round. If there is bait, there will be fish. Crappie survive just fine in Florida's shallow, hot waters. Congrats on the catch, and thanks for the pic. Now I'm hungry!!

I would be thinking deep too! I guess at first we should try shallow first and work out to deep from there. Old habits are hard to break! I also would have been tight lining for them.

    Thanks for sharing.

Good catch in all this heat. I'm with Ink, shallow water in the summertime is always overlooked, but that's where the majority of my fish come from. The body of water and location on that body make a difference, but not many people check up there.

That plate sure does look good! Reminds me of my lunch I had today Took Too Long To Find 'EM

I have sadly come to accept that a "bad" day for Butch is a good day for me.
