Fished Monticello from 6 till 12 today. Wind had water rolling with about 2' waves when we arrived. We took 2 boats & 4 fishermen. Stopped & got herrin on the way down.
Put in at the lower landing & motored out to dam about 1/2 across the lake. Both boats started out drifting cut bait on free lines & some on down rods about 60' down. Bites were slow but my boat caught about 12. All were small up to about 2 lbs. Other boat drifted the whole time. They ended up with 16 blues which were a little larger than ours.
About 10, I found a spot & dropped anchors in 50'. I marked a lot of fish on the bottom in about 60'. Started getting a lot of bites but we missed a lot of fish on the bottom. I had some cut up perch which I had soaked overnight in miced garlic. This bait worked better since it was hard for the fish to get off. We got a lot of bites on this bait. All the fish we caught fishing on the bottom were from 6" up to about 16". My boat ended up with 46 cats. All blues except 2.
very nice Charles.

Way to go Charles. Looks like you had fun. I hear the catfish are good to eat in that lake.
