    Default Santee 3/11 & 3/12

They asked for it so here it is. Haven't posted much this year due to the crappie really putting a whooping on me this year. With will the rain and depth finder issues I have really not been able to catch fish like years past. Now that everything is worked out I hope this weekend was what I needed to put me back in action.
Could not have asked for a better day to fish on Friday wind wide. That was enough to send me to the lower end of Santee. Lake moultrie is all i had in mind. Fished 5 different places down there and was able to pull fish from all. Biggest bite I had was from a 2.5 lb fish but all were solid 1.5 - 2.5 fish.
Dad got there later that evening and we had a decision to make. Thought really hard about fishing the tourney in Marion. Only thing that sent us back down to lower was water depth. I will fish skinny water but my preference is a little deeper. Found cooler water down there which held fish in the 10 - 14 ft water column. Man am I glad we decided to go for moultrie.
While the for was thick we had a blast. Not fast and furious but definitely enough to keep you busy. I have never caught that many fish on the lower lake. Usually the quality is there but quantity is lacking.
As with Friday we had a nice stringer of fish going from 1.5 - 2.5. When the for lifted the bite died on is. Tried all depths and might near all colors and couldn get much going. Since dad hasn't been around the lower lake much at all i decided to give him a tour of the ocean. Spot two held fish we picked up every so often but never helped our total weight. Reel them up we gotta go. Spot three is where it all came together. Picked up a 2.70 right off the bat, and knew that's where we would park. It was slow. Picked up one more fish for the stringer, it just happened to be a 3.48 on a 16 ft Rod. Everything we had in the box was 2lb or better except one 1.72. With less than an hour left to fish two of dads rods rolled back. I sprung up to help but the wind picked up and the back of the boat got away from us. We had a mess. Got my fish in but his came off on top of the water. Can't say it was a 3 lb fish but it sure would have topped 2.75 I believe. That would have picked up a whole pound. It happens no big deal. Left weigh in on top with a 16.81 stringer. 2 years ago I won down there with 17.80. I really do enjoy it down there. I'm not real computer savvy so no pics. Inkdabber had a few of them and maybe if he reads this he can add to it. Thanks for all the pats on the back.

Way to go Blaine! You and your dad done an awesome job putting together a milk run that produced a winning strategy. A big congrats on the win, and that monster 3.48 lb. toad.

Blaine, that was a heck of a catch! I didn't mean or want to steal your thunder by posting your weights in my post, but I wasn't sure you'd see the request to post a report and those weights need to be shared!! They are too impressive not to. Congrats again on two days of outstanding fishing. You definitely have them giants on the lower lake figured out!
Hooking up every chance I get!

No problem Derek. I was a little behind after catching up on lost time with my boy on Sunday. Never had a chance to check out the board.
