A Few Screen Shots On 3/3

Well guys and gals I got the day off and decided to scout new ground. It was windy and it was cold, but hey I had a good time. I may have only caught 1 fish but I didn't get skunked! lol!! I took a few screen shots but having a hard time understanding some of them. I hope some can share some thought. What is seen in SI and DI does not show up on the sonar? I know something is not right. Thanks

Sometime SI picks up returns that 2D doesn't, such as a passing boat's prop wash trail. SI is looking out to the sides, 2D is looking in a cone shaped pattern beneath your hull. If you go to the CDC Electronics forum, and then look in the SI/DI subforum, there is a sticky article at the top that includes graphic images of the sonar patterns and their relative sizes and overlaps. Was very helpful for me when I first starting using SI. Also, there are 40 or more SI sonar quizzes that can help you better understand what SI/DI can do. Hope this helps some.

In your 2D sonar screen, it looks like you have the depth range set manually to 40 feet. That works good in 30 - 35 ft. of water, but I've found that it is not too good in 10 to 20 ft. of water. The closer you get the lake bottom to the bottom of the screen the better. You can set it to automatically adjust if you are trolling, or you'll have to change it manually if you are hole hopping.

You can also try increasing the sensitivity. I don't see any surface clutter from the 0 to 5 foot depth which usually means the sensitivity is set too low. I'm using a Lowrance depth finder. Good luck and tight lines.
