Default Lake Murray Crappie Report 12/21/15

With two good days of perch jerking behind us, I started getting the crappie itch again. With the forecasted rain I figured I better go ahead and give them a shot before it'll take a turn plow to cut the mud up the rivers.

My dad joined me and we hit the water shortly after 7:00 AM. Method of choice today was single pole jigging. Normally, I prefer to tightline this time of year, but I haven't been up the rivers since Labor Day so I wanted to be able to cover as much water as possible. And cover water we did. We jigged everything we could from brush, to stickups, bridges, and docks. It was a one here, one there, kind of day with a slow, grinding bite. I think the overcast conditions played against us, but we still managed a respectable mess with a few nice fish in the mix.

Best part was the frying and eating we did tonight for supper. Fresh fried crappie is tough to beat!!

Water temp up the rivers was 51. Fish were caught on 1/32 oz jigs with and without meat. Best color was yellow/chart. and yellow/white both in tube jigs. Depth of water was anywhere from 8-25 FOW fishing 6-12 foot down.

Might be a few days before I try them again but I plan to be back chasing them in the near future. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Hooking up every chance I get!
